Araneta Center Christmas Tree lights up the Holidays

Araneta Center Christmas Tree lights up the Holidays

A bright and merry Christmas season comes to the metropolis as the giant Araneta Center Christmas Tree lights up and brings a touch of festive magic to the holidays.

First installed 31 years ago by J. Amado Araneta, the dazzling structure is an iconic symbol of Christmas in the Philippines and its annual lighting ceremony signals the start of the holiday season.

Standing 100 feet tall at the Gateway Food Park, the Araneta Center Christmas Tree attracts shoppers and sightseers alike with its spectacular display of glowing bulbs and beautiful ornaments.

“It’s an annual tradition that shoppers and residents in the area look forward to because it signals the start of the season. It’s a colorful reminder of love, joy and hope that the season brings. For Araneta Center, we want to make it better than last year so we constantly challenge ourselves to make this annual tradition more joyous, festive and entertaining than the last,” says Jorge L. Araneta, president and CEO of the Araneta Group.

This year, the lighting of the Araneta Center Christmas Tree featured some of today’s brightest Kapamilya stars headlined by Vice Ganda. A dazzling fireworks display will also light up the sky to cap the festivity.

Celebrating the Christmas spirit of giving and sharing, the Araneta Center also hosted a gift-giving activity for the children of Child Haus, a temporary shelter for underprivileged parents and their children who are undergoing medical treatment in Manila.

Following the symbolic lighting of the iconic Araneta Center Christmas Tree will be tons of holiday-themed events at various venues inside the Araneta Center. The lineup includes the annual Belen Lighting at Farmers Market on November 12; Mall Christmas Tree Lighting at Gateway Mall on November 15, New Frontier Plaza on November 21 and Ali Mall on November 22; Christmas Caroling at the three malls starting on December 2; and the Santa Meet and Greet every weekend of December.

The Araneta Center will also host many fun-filled events on Christmastime, including Disney On Ice Magical Ice Festival at the Big Dome and the Parolan bazaar at the Farmers Market.

With plenty of Christmas and holiday offerings to enjoy, the Araneta Center is a must visit place to go with your loved ones this festive season!

Save hearts through art by the Rotarians

The Rotary Club of Makati West (RCMW) is calling on art lovers to support their annual all-sculpture exhibit-sale dubbed “Alay Sining”to be held at The Gallery, Greenbelt 5, Makati City from November 12 to 15, 2015. Now on its eight year, Alay Sining 8’s theme is “Art with a Heart” which complements the Rotary International’s theme of “Be a Gift to the World”.

Alay Sining is a fund-raising initiative for one of RCMW’s signature projects, the Gift of Life program, which gives congenital heart disease (CHD) patients under the program with free heart surgeries.

According to RCMW President Victor “Junvee” Vital, supporting the art-for-a cause exhibit will not only mean supporting Filipino children with heart ailments but also local artists.

Both seasoned and new sculptors will be contributing pieces to the Alay Sining, and donating a portion of the sale price of their art pieces to the exhibit’s intended recipients – the CHD patients that will be given free heart surgeries under the Gift of Life program.

“If you support Alay Sining, you don’t only support children with heart ailments, but Filipino artists as well. So I say, “Start saving hearts through art,” said Vidal.

Rotary Club Makati West officers and members joined by the beneficiaries of the Gift of Life program and their parents.

Rotary Club Makati West officers and members (L–R) Edsa delos Santos, Davy Lim, AP Bartolome, Alay Sining 8 chairman Paolo Delgado, Greenbelt’s Cel Gera, Ayala Malls manager Mina Domingo, RCMW president Junvee Vital, Roque Tordesillas and Patrick Dionisio are joined (center) by the beneficiaries of the Gift of Life program and their parents.

According to Paolo Delgado, this year’s chairman of the exhibit’s Organizing Committee, this year’s Alay Sining will be joined by over a hundred artists who have sent their respective works for the exhibit.

“They are from all over the country – we have some from Palawan, Mindanao and Cebu. So, it’s really a Philippine-wide sculpture shop, and what’s really nice is that all of the artists have joined because they want to support the Club and the Gift of Life,” said Delgado.

Some of the participating artists of the Rotary Club of Makati’s Alay Sining 8 showcase their artworks during the exhibit’s recent presscon: (L-R) Jaime Nepomuceno, Glen Cagandahan, Benjamin Dailo, Fred Caedo, Kish Javier, Helena Alegre, Merlito Gepte, Jaime Gubaton, Milmar Onal, Ral Arrogante, and Jinggoy Salcedo.

“They (the artists) have taken all the time and the effort to be with us. We’ve had a lot of them over the last eight years, and they have been with us since the first Alay Sining, when we are still learning how to run an art exhibit. And it’s really been heartening and we are very thankful for all the support that the artists have given us,” he added.

Explained Delgado, congenital heart disease usually forms at a very young age, and the mortality rate is not very good.

“Even if you do survive, you end up living a life with some sort of a handicap… you will not be able to engage in sports which young kids should be doing at their young age. So this fundraising that we run for the Gift of Life can really make a world of difference for the children out there,” he said.

RCMW member and former president Roque Tordesillas said that the cost of a heart surgery in a private hospital ranges from Ph800,000 to more than Php 1 million if for an open-heart surgery.

“But because of the work we have done at the Rotary over the past 11 years, we have established ties with the National Children Hospital, our main partner, which have brought down the costs because of subsidies. So that the Club only pays about P100,000 up to P200,000 especially for more complicated surgeries.

Tordesillas also lauded the Alay Sining artists calling them the “heroes” in this project.

“They are the real heroes of this program because they are the ones contributing their works, their artistry, and their hearts for this particular project. Without the artists, there will be no Alay Sining. We have had very generous artists who have contributed their talents to the cause over the years, so that the hearts of children are saved.”

Speaking on behalf of his co-artists, Ral Arrogante, who have been with Alay Sining since Year One,  said that for them artists, doing charity completes their vocation.

Since we cannot contribute cash, we contribute our works. We can’t fully consider ourselves as artists if we don’t do charity. Our works are the best things that we can contribute),” he said.

Summer Learnin’ at Goldilocks

Goldilocks, the country’s number one bakeshop, has set the stage for the sweetest summer memories yet. This May marks the launch of the very first Goldilocks Junior Crew summer workshop, open to all children across Metro Manila who love to learn, work, play, and have fun, all at the same time.

The Goldilocks Junior Crew members, from a range of ages 6-12, will learn first-hand what it’s like to be behind the scenes of the country’s number one bakeshop. In addition to an educational immersion store experience (though the kitchen will be off limits, due to safety concerns), children will get to participate in various games and art sessions, as well as the fan favorite Goldilocks Decorate Your Cake activity. The workshop takes place over the course of five days, with two hours each day devoted to learning responsibility and enjoying the experience.

Cherry Caluya, the Marketing Director of Goldilocks Philippines, said, “Throughout the entire history of our brand, Goldilocks has always been about bringing smiles to the faces of children. We’ve always seen their happiness at Goldilocks as our responsibility, and with the Goldilocks Junior Crew Workshops, a big part of our goal is making sure that we set a good example for them.”

With the Junior Crew Workshop, she hopes that the children who participate will be exposed to the value of discipline and hard work, while developing their social skills as they make new friends during the summer.

The registration fee of P550 is inclusive of a Goldilocks Junior Crew uniform, art materials, meals, and a certificate of participation. Interested participants can sign up for the Junior Crew Workshop from March 16 to April 30, at selected Goldilocks stores around the country.

Nutrilite celebrates 80th anniversary

Nutrilite celebrates 80th anniversary with global phytonutrient report and expanded research and development, nutrition manufacturing and visitor experience

To mark its 80th year, the vitamin and dietary supplement leader continues to pursue pioneering phytonutrient research and make significant investments for the future

Manila, Philippines (October 22, 2014) – In the early 20th century, before people knew what “phytonutrients” were and even before the word “vitamin” was widely used, future Nutrilite founder Carl Rehnborg was in China, already observing the connection between health and a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. He was even experimenting with his own crude supplements.

Now, 80 years after the Nutrilite brand was founded, it is the number one selling brand of vitamins and dietary supplements in the world.* Nutrilite continues to grow in sales, infrastructure and expertise, remaining at the forefront of researching plant-based nutrients, now commonly known as phytonutrients.

“Carl was truly way ahead of his time. His vision and passion led to such an innovative solution — preserving these phytonutrients so that each one of us can easily fill the nutrition gaps in our diets when we don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables,” said Kanan Banerjee, Amway vice president for global branding in nutrition and wellness. “Life has changed a lot since 1934. Most of us are busier with less time to eat right, making Nutrilite more relevant today than ever before.”

To mark the 80th anniversary of Nutrilite, Amway and the Nutrilite Health Institute are releasing the 2014 Nutrilite Global Phytonutrient Report**, one of the few reports that examines global fruit and vegetable intake and availability, and the potential implications on health.

Nutrilite

Nutrilite 80th Anniversary

The Nutrilite Global Phytonutrient Report reveals a gap between the amount of fruits and vegetables recommended by the World Health Organization and what people actually eat. That gap can be caused by busy schedules, limited access to any or a variety of fresh produce, as well as personal taste preferences.

“These results are a big part of helping people understand how they can and should eat in order to fill their nutritional gaps and make an investment each and every day to live healthier lives for the benefit of their families and for themselves. Nutrilite’s philosophy of optimal health embodies healthy balanced nutrition that includes an abundance of plant foods and regular physical activity or exercise as two key foundational components for everyone,” said Dr. Keith Randolph, technology strategist at the Nutrilite Health Institute.

Color Your Story World Tour

Report highlights are being shared throughout 2014 during the Color Your Story World Tour. The tour features Nutrilite scientists, other experts and Dr. Sam Rehnborg, Carl’s son and the president of the Nutrilite Health Institute.

“Throughout our history, Nutrilite has taken the lead in nutritional sciences and the use of phytonutrients. By staying true to our commitment of combining the best of science with the best of nature, we have become a global health and wellness leader,” said Rehnborg.

New research and development, manufacturing facilities and visitor experience

Amway and Nutrilite leaders also are unveiling a fully redesigned Center for Optimal Health in Buena Park, California (U.S.), with new facilities for manufacturing, and research and development.

The $42 million renovation and expansion includes an elaborate rooftop display where visitors can learn about Nutrilite farming operations, product offerings and Carl Rehnborg’s journey to starting Nutrilite. The work is being completed in phases with the final dedication on September 17, 2014, as part of the anniversary celebration.

Superbike Racing Team “ART” (ATAT Racing Team)

Superbike Racing is known as a foreign sport for the adrenaline junky, with speeds reaching up to 300kph on straights and corners with very sharp turns. In a more technical sense, it is a category of motorcycle racing wherein tuned versions of motorbikes available for sale to the public are used for competitive racing in the tracks.

10719248_10202838263903492_1502467066_nNot known to many of Filipinos, Philippines actually has a growing and thriving superbike racing community. Races have been hosted regularly in our top racing circuits in Batangas and Clark, Pampanga. Teams have also been formed representing the top motorbike manufacturers such as Aprilia and Ducati. The Philippine Superbike Championship has produced the biggest grid of Superbikes in the Philippine Motor Racing history and will the series will end this weekend at Clark International Speedway October 4 and 5.

One of the teams that have been gaining popularity in the superbike racing scene is the ATAT Racing Team. The ATAT Racing Team “ART” is an affiliate of Any Time All the Time (ATAT) Motorcycle Club. This motorcycle club is the only all-Italian Superbike Club in the Philippines. This highly exclusive, by-invite-only group is comprised of 24 CEOs, business owners, and top executives. The spirit of the group lies in their common passion for motorcycle riding on the road and on the track, and in their advocacy for motorsport safety. ART is composed of 14 active front racers with top of the line superbikes from Aprilia and Ducati. On October 5, 2014, witness 12 ART racers together with their sponsors, Brickfire, IPM Group of Companies, Fila, Technomarine, Assurant, Foilacar and Megaworld take the grid on Sunday and test their skill against other racers in their respective categories.
